International Baccalaureate
- This program is a pre-university international program for highly motivated junior and senior students authorized in 110 countries at some 1,500 schools
- Certificate and diploma students have their work scored by an international board of examiners, as well as with internal assessments
- IB can complement and enhance an already rigorous curriculum
- Diploma students must study both science and the humanities including language, second language, individuals and society, experimental sciences, mathematics and computer science, and the arts. In addition, it includes three additional features: the Theory of Knowledge course, the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) component, and the extended essay

High schools start school year with new IB curriculum

Midland and H. H. Dow High Schools launched the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with the start of the 2007-08 school year. Both schools offer 12 IB courses in six subject areas plus the Theory of Knowledge. These include IB World Literature 1; IB French, German and Spanish; IB History of the Americas; IB Psychology; IB Business Management; IB Physics; IB Math Studies 1/Adv. Algebra and IB Math HL 1/Adv. H. H. Dow High and Midland High receive official IB status

Midland High School and H. H. Dow High School have received official authorization from the International Baccalaureate Organization to begin teaching the IB Diploma Programme August 1, 2007. A yearlong application process has come to a successful beginning. Continued »
IB team to visit high schools in March

Both Midland High and H. H. Dow submitted their IB applications in early November and received the first of several levels of feedback in early January. The schools are now responding to recommendations made by IBNA (International Baccalaureate North America) to the curriculum portions of their applications. The schools are also preparing for their authorization site visits to be held during the first week of March. Continued »

IB implementation continues

MPS granted approval for International Baccalaureate pilot

The Intent to Apply form for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme was submitted February 16, 2006. Midland Public Schools has been approved to participate in the rotational calendars pilot. This opportunity will enable us to adhere to our timeline of beginning this program in 2007-08. Our teachers are now in the process of registering for training at various sites and plan to work this summer on developing our curriculum. In March, several staff members will be attending the IBNO workshop in Danvers, Massachusetts and at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
